We’re starting a new series here at Two Guys, One Movie: The Quick Review. It will consist of no more than one sentence, giving you all the information you need to know…whether to see it or not. Without further adieu, our first Quick Review:

Good concept that falls flat; do not see.

Episode #56 – “Dark Shadows”

This week Two Guys, One Movie is taking a look at “Dark Shadows”, the newest Tim Burton/Johnny Depp collaboration. Based on the classic(?) soap-opera of the same name, “Dark Shadows” is the tale of Barnabas Collins, a vampire who finds himself 200-years in the future…1972. Have Burton and Depp gotten it right this time around? Or is the film just another “Alice In Wonderland”? Tune-in and find out! We also discuss what we’ve been watching this week, including “The Adventures of Tintin” and “Spirited Away”, and then move on to give a mini-review of “The Five-Year Engagement”.

Episode #55 – “The Avengers”

People said Marvel couldn’t pull it off. They said there was no way to bring together so many different elements into one movie. Marvel was playing the long game with “The Avengers”. Does it, in fact, pay off? Or was the film a jumbled mess of egos and explosions that should have never happened? Tune-in as we dissect one of the biggest films of the year, a film close to 5 years in the making, “The Avengers”.

So we decided to chat about three shows on television right now: “Mad Men”, “Game of Thrones”, and “Eastbound and Down”. The episode is a little different than usual but it’s a good one. If you’re a fan of any of these shows, be sure to tune in!

Episode #53 – “The Cabin in the Woods”

Time for a horror film review at Two Guys, One Movie. But is “The Cabin in the Woods” really a horror film? Or was it more like “Scream”? (Unless you consider “Scream” a horror film!) “Cabin in the Woods” was shot 3 years ago, before one of it’s leads became Thor…we’ll let you figure out which one. As for the plot of this film? We’re going to keep it short and sweet: Five teens pile into their RV and head to a cabin in the woods, even though a creepy old man tells them to stay away. Anything more than that would be giving away too much. Thankfully, here at Two Guys, One Movie, we break the review up into a spoilers and non-spoilers section. So go ahead and hit that play button!

Episode 52 – “American Reunion”

The whole “American Pie” gang is back for seconds thirds fourths and this time it’s for a high school reunion. And when I say the whole gang is back, I mean everyone. Either they all really loved the script for this film or they all just needed the money. After seeing the film, Justin and I can safely assume which reason it was. Besides reviewing “American Reunion”, we also talk about what we’ve been watching including “Jane Eyre” and “The Royal Tenenbaums”, and move on to discuss the season 3 finale of “Justified”. Tune in for what is definitely a great episode.

How Do Critic Reviews Influence Your Movie-Going Experience?

As a cinephile, I am always intrigued by the film reviews of critics and friends alike. Prior to the release of almost any film, I find myself constantly referring to Rottentomatoes (RT) to read their early reviews. Personally, I try not to let reviews sway me on whether or not I will see a movie. I like to let my own thoughts and opinions dictate whether or not a film is worth seeing. The truth is, however, that no matter how hard I try, my movie-going experience is affected by the reviews I read. This got me thinking, how much influence do reviews really have on me?
